Early this morning, United States authorities closed the San Ysidro gate, on the border of San Diego with Tijuana. US police and military guarded the crossing before the arrival of thousands of Central American migrants, placed blocks of concrete with barbed wire to prevent passage. On the Mexican side, drivers returned when they realized the closure. Around 6:30 in the morning, local time, the checkpoint was reopened.
Minutes before four in the morning, time from Tijuana, the San Ysidro gate was closed to traffic by US authorities. The closure was carried out by elements of the United States police, as well as military personnel from that country, who were armed and carrying anti-riot shields.
The US authorities also placed cement structures with barbed wire, as a kind of border fence, to prevent the migrant caravan from entering the San Ysidro sentry box.
Hundreds of motorists trying to enter the United States legally were affected and had to leave the San Ysidro gate.
