The Carpa Olivera, also known as “Las Alberquitas,” on the Olas Altas boardwalk, remains closed to the public during this Holy Week holiday period because its current condition poses a risk to swimmers.

Mayor Estrella Palacios Domínguez announced this on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, stating that her administration, through the Public Works Department, has plans to rehabilitate this space, which is one of the most popular attractions during this time of year and in the summer.

“Due to the risk. Right now, we are preventing people from entering because some maintenance work needs to be done. This morning, engineer Martín Gallardo, head of Public Works, was here carrying out some surveying work, and it was necessary to cordon off the area so that visitors don’t enter and risk any danger, as a preventative measure.”

The mayor also emphasized that in addition to the Carpa Olivera, the iconic pools that naturally fill with seawater, they also have plans to rehabilitate the Walk of Fame and the Monument to the Women of Mazatlán, also located in the Olas Altas area.

“We also have the Walk of Fame, which will be renovated. The bidding process for these two monuments—the Monument to the Women of Mazatlán and the Walk of Fame—will begin in the coming days. They will be completely rehabilitated.”

The Walk of Fame, located at the foot of the Monument to the Women of Mazatlán on the Olas Altas boardwalk, was inaugurated more than 30 years ago to pay tribute to singers, musicians, athletes, and other prominent figures such as Pedro Infante, Ana Gabriel, Julio César Chávez, and Los Tigres del Norte, among others.

The mayor of Mazatlán stated that once the Walk of Fame has been restored, a musical show will be held there, which could be part of the National Circuit of Festivals for Peace, promoted by the Government of Claudia Sheinbaum.
