Government prepares for the observation of the Solar Eclipse in Mazatlán

A multidisciplinary group from the State Government is working on the preparations for the event that will take place in Mazatlán for the observation of the Solar Eclipse next Monday, April 8, with the visit of the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Although the eclipse will be visible from Canada, the United States, and Mexico, it will be precisely in Mazatlán where the phenomenon can be fully appreciated and for a longer time, which will be approximately 4 minutes and 20 seconds.

By instructions of Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, the Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada square in Mazatlán will be the place enabled for the observation of the total eclipse phenomenon, which is when the moon covers the sun for a few minutes.

To fine-tune these preparations, the Chief of Staff of the Executive, Cinthia Gabriela Gutiérrez López, and private secretary of Governor Rocha Moya, convened officials from various state agencies that will participate in this event, such as the head of the Office of the Secretary of Tourism, Ricardo Velarde Cárdenas; the head of the Office of the Secretary of Public Education and Culture, Catalina Esparza Navarrete; the director of the State Civil Protection Institute, Roy Navarrete Cuevas, and representatives of the Secretary of Public Security, Secretary of Health, the Sinaloan Institute of Culture, the General Coordination for the Promotion of Scientific Research and Innovation of the State of Sinaloa, and INAH.

The head of Tourism, Ricardo Velarde, announced that the hotel occupancy in Mazatlán is already practically at its maximum, due to the privileged location for the observation of the eclipse, there is already an influx of tourists not only from the rest of the country but also from abroad, even a group of NASA scientists has also confirmed their visit to the port.

On behalf of the Sinaloan Institute of Culture, the presentation of the Sinaloa Symphony Orchestra of the Arts is planned, which will perform some symphonies before the eclipse, on the same stage that will be set up in the esplanade of the Sánchez Taboada square, where the Governor will host President López Obrador and other special guests.

In addition, it is planned to offer thousands of special glasses for the observation of the eclipse for free, which have already been purchased and will arrive this same week, as reported by the representative of the Secretary of Health.

To learn more about this phenomenon, the State Government opened the website eclipsesolar2024.sinaloa.gob.mx, where it is reported that the total eclipse will start at 09:51:23, the moment when the moon will begin to partially cover the sun during its journey, which will conclude at 12:32:09, and the moment called the total phase, which is when the moon will completely interpose itself in front of the sun, will be exactly at 11:07:31 and will last 4 minutes and 20 seconds.

The eclipse can also be observed in Villa Unión, El Quelite, La Noria, and El Recodo, in the municipality of Mazatlán; as well as in Aguacaliente de Gárate and Pánuco, in the municipality of Concordia; in El Caimanero, Ojo de Agua, Escuinapa, and Teacapán, in the municipality of Escuinapa; and in Las Labradas, Dimas, and Coyotitán, in the municipality of San Ignacio, with different durations, the shortest being 2 minutes 16 seconds.
