2002

MAZATLAN. – A bad experience was the one lived by 240 tourists from the states of Coahuila and Nuevo León when they were victims of cyber fraud and booked a hotel in the Golden Zone of Mazatlán that ended up not existing.

Martín Ochoa López, Secretary of Economic Development, Tourism and Fisheries of Mazatlán, Sedectur, reported that after the fact was made known, they went to the Aquarium parking lot to speak with the affected visitors, who were not only listened to, they were also a place to stay, as well as food and advice to file their corresponding complaint, in conjunction with the DIF System and the Center for Attention and Protection of Tourists.

“They were attended to along with Capta, they were present, they are on the subject of the complaint, but at that moment people want even a bottle of water, so the president, Édgar González, was notified, he gave us indications for us to manage through the DIF some food and water, “he explained.

For his part, the mayor Édgar Augusto González Zataráin made it clear that the fraud was not carried out in Mazatlán, but in the cities of origin at the time of making the reservation, for which he asked the public to be more careful when planning trips and make reservations through the official pages.

“It is important to make it clear that the fraud was not committed here, it is safe to travel to Mazatlán, but I invite you to verify, the hotels have their official pages, you can call.”

He explained that it was through a citizen who is dedicated to vacation rentals that it was possible to provide lodging to the families, since at the moment the port has 100 percent reservations for this weekend.

In addition, they were provided with support to establish their complaint since apparently, they used an informal portal to make their reservation and it was through this that they fell into the fraud.

Finally, and despite the bad taste, Ochoa López commented that the tourists decided to stay to continue enjoying the port of Mazatlán and its attractions.
