Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- From this Monday, the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception of Mazatlán will be celebrating, since it is 63 years since its creation as a Diocese, a date that they will celebrate with a mass at 12:00 noon, Bishop Mario Espinosa Contreras announced.
It was in the 19th century when the church was built, in the ‘heart’ of a nascent Mazatlán port, and it was 1958 when the Diocese of Mazatlán was created and the parish was elevated to a cathedral, by Pope John XXIII, explained Espinosa Contreras.
“When the Diocese of Mazatlán was made on November 22, 1958 by Juan XXIII, he wanted the Diocese of Mazatlán to dedicate itself to the Immaculate Conception, the parish temple of the Immaculate Conception was elevated to a cathedral, that is why every year it is celebrated , usually come representation of the parishes of the city ”.
He indicated that, as every year, they hope that parishioners from different parishes will arrive for this celebration, to celebrate another anniversary of the Cathedral, on earlier dates, of another important celebration such as the saint to the Immaculate Conception on December 8, for the that, on the eve, the night of the 7th, there will be a concert with the parish priest Miguel Ángel Sánchez Zapata.
Already for the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, on December 12, Mario Espinosa Contreras revealed that this year masses will be held in honor of the “morenita”, yes, under a strict protocol of health, with eighty percent of capacity in each ecclesiastical celebration; although I mention that there are nests to all the churches of the Diocese to avoid pilgrimages.
“For people who come to mass, they will be able to access through the front door into the interior of the church, those who want to come just to visit Our Lady will be able to do so in front of her altar that is at the back of the cathedral.”
On Saturday, December 11, the previous mass will be held at 10:00 p.m., and at the end of the religious ceremony, Las Mañanitas a la Guadalupana will be sung, while on Sunday 12 there will be seven masses 7:00, 9:00, 11: 00, 12:00, 13:00, 18:00 and 19:00 hours, although during much of the day, the parishioners will be able to visit the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, through a circuit in which they can be for a brief moment, to give agility and avoid tumults.
