Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- In the vicinity of the Santa Teresa neighborhood, a man was caught on two occasions assaulting the drivers of the units on the Cerritos route with an armed hand, these being the first cases of bus assaults since the beginning of the year, confessed Faustino Mejía Chávez, president of the Mazatlan Urban and Suburban Transportation and Trucks Alliance.
The first assault was registered on October 6 at 6:17 in the afternoon of this year, later on, Thursday the 14th at 7:06 at night the same assailant again approached the unit of the Cerritos route, stripping all the money and belongings to the driver of the unit.
“They have already gone twice, we have him well located and he more or less works in that area, Santa Teresa. Yesterday it happened again; he climbs in and assaults with a pistol, armed, ”he declared.
In an interview with Reacción Informativa, Mejía Chávez commented that this is an isolated event since the beginning of the year they had not had problems with assailants on board the units. Likewise, he explained that the use of the panic button has helped them a lot to reduce the rates of assaults in the units.
“We have already had other experiences before, it is the same, if you check it, it is the same on October 6, it is the same way, the same person. We are about to present our complaint and as we have done in previous cases and it has worked for us, this time it will not be the exception, we are working on that ”, claimed the representative of the buses.
He stressed that the most important thing for them is the integrity and the life of the operators and passengers, despite the money or belongings that the assailant may loot.
“We had not had these problems throughout the year, this is the first, well maybe the second but they are very sporadic events, we had not had that problem (…) Today the panic button helps us because apart from the fact that there is evidence, it allows us to proceed in a certain way ”, he confessed.
