Elota is a thriving municipality with livestock, agriculture, commerce, fishing and now with the plus of tourism, Elotense Mayor Geovani Escobar said at the press conference, announcing on February 1 and 2 the IV edition of the Expo Feria del Ostión 2020, “The richest oyster in the world”, in the beach community of Celestino Gasca, where 12 thousand visitors are expected to attend.
Accompanied by the State Undersecretary of Tourism, Monica Coppel, who invited society to participate in this event that will be totally familiar, with which the region’s gastronomic tourism will be promoted, whose diversity is excellent, as in the whole State.
Mayor Geovani Escobar said it will be an important weekend for the Celestino Gasca community that will celebrate this event, which year after year has been improving. In this community, there is a hotel zone, in addition to the beautiful beaches and surfing.
It is a town that is passing through the Mazatlan-Culiacán highway (78 kilometers north of this port), and added that it works with the program “#Descond Elota”, in which the tourist attractions of the municipality.
He said they have 280 rooms where tourists can be accommodated, and there will be a camping site for them to join the Expo Fair that, in addition to the gastronomic show, will feature cultural, artistic and sports shows, competitions, as well as sand sculptors during the two days.
Meanwhile, the president of the cooperative society Ostioneros Unidos de Elota, Israel Coronel, informed that there will be a production between 80 and 90 tons of oyster during the two days of the program and added that for this year they expect to receive about 12 thousand visitors, to exceed the figure they achieved the previous year, when they had around 10 thousand people.
The director of tourism of Elota, Azucena Núñez, said that the inauguration will be at 10 am on the first day and the activities will take place throughout the day, with a gastronomic show on Saturday that will be free.

The City Council of Elota works, in coordination with the State Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks of Sinaloa (Coepris) and the Sinaloense Institute of Aquaculture and Fisheries (Isapesca), in the certification of the Celestino Gasca beach, for be able to export the scallop to the United States and other countries.
Ángel Geovani Escobar Manjarrez, municipal president of Elota, said he has been working on the oyster export certification for seven months, and the first stage of studies has been carried out, however, it is a long process that can last up to five years.
We are looking for the certification of what a kilometer and a half of oyster production is. In Sinaloa it would be the second certified place for this mollusk, we are working with Coepris to certify Celestino Gasca, ”he said.
The mayor of La Cruz announced that they want to become the second municipality of Sinaloa to export scallop, something that only Guasave does, however, they export for pleasure, so they will be the first to export stone.
“There have been seafood exporters to the United States who want to export this mollusk. The great interest because this oyster just comes out here in Mexico, that we also take it to the borders and to the United States, whether it is packaged, ”he said.
It should be noted that Celestino Gasca produces around 550 tons of oysters per year, so they expect this certification to leave a greater economic spill in the municipality and generate more jobs.
