Funds of foreign private capital have a very strong appetite for investing in Mexico in infrastructure and energy, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

Arnoldo Padilla, general director of foreign investment promotion, who attended the 14th Private Capital Summit on behalf of Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, said that these are private equity funds such as sovereigns of Arab countries, Asia, as well as Europe and to Oceania

He commented that the appetite to bring capital to Mexico is very strong, because the confidence in the country is growing despite the uncertainty that was generated by the change of government.

However, he considered that it will be until the end of this year when the investment intentions can be specified.

During his participation in the forum organized by the Mexican Association of Private Capital, the official recalled that the SRE is now in charge of attracting private investment with the existing structure, since ProMéxico was liquidated by the current government.

He said that even when the agency was responsible for attracting foreign capital, it relied on embassies, but now that role has been taken up by the Foreign Ministry.

He acknowledged that the SRE does not have the structure that ProMéxico had, but they are also accompanying Mexican companies seeking to invest abroad and so far 50 companies have shown interest in doing so.

Padilla explained that the markets in which they seek to venture are South America, Europe, and the United States.
