Criminals Disappear Her! On the afternoon of October 14, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, the searching mother, María de los Ángeles Valenzuela, was urgently reported missing by the collective Hearts United for a Same Cause, to which she belongs. According to its members, the woman was deprived of her liberty by armed criminals while traveling through the Salvador Allende neighborhood, and her whereabouts are currently unknown.
The collective quickly distributed a wanted file with the victim’s photograph and characteristics, demanding immediate intervention from authorities to locate her alive.
María de los Ángeles had joined this organization after the disappearance of her son and cousin in 2024 and 2025, respectively, dedicating her life to searching for missing persons and defending human rights in the region.
The National Network of Women Human Rights Defenders in Mexico expressed its deep concern about the case, requesting that María de los Ángeles’ work be recognized and that her disappearance be investigated under the search for her alive line. They also called for comprehensive protection for her family and the members of the collective, given the increasing violence facing the state of Sinaloa.
In an interview with the media, Óscar Loza Ochoa, president of the State Human Rights Commission (CEDH), demanded the safe return of María de los Ángeles Valenzuela.
He stated that the woman was deprived of her liberty and that there has been no news of her so far. Loza Ochoa warned about the seriousness of the case, given that those searching for missing persons are also at risk. He emphasized that the disappearance occurs in a context of increasing cases in Mazatlán and Sinaloa, with no prior reports of threats.
