A tranquil Thursday afternoon in Mazatlán’s Higueras Residencial neighborhood turned into chaos as police officers surrounded two streets, Gibrain Zatarain and Roberto Montenegro, to capture the driver of a fleeing motorcycle.

Eyewitnesses claim that at least 20 patrol units converged on the area, accompanied by gunfire, in an attempt to apprehend the suspect who had refused to stop. The high-speed chase apparently began on Clouthier Avenue before entering the residential neighborhood where the suspect resides.

According to local residents, the young man is employed with a construction materials distribution company and believes his only mistake was failing to comply with a search request.

Preventive officers pursued him to his home, where he attempted to seek refuge behind locked doors. However, unable to gain entry, he resorted to jumping through bedrooms and onto rooftops in an attempt to evade capture.

The suspect finally surrendered after hearing gunshots allegedly fired into the air while inside a nearby house, which police entered with the consent of its owners. He was subsequently handcuffed and taken into custody before being transported to the municipal jail.

Local residents reported that the motorcycle, driven by the approximately 30-year-old suspect, was lifted onto the roof of a patrol car after the chase came to an end.
