As the world observes World Oceans Day on June 8th, Mazatlán’s Great Mazatlán Sea of Cortez Aquarium is taking a proactive stance by organizing a massive beach cleanup initiative in collaboration with local institutions and organizations.
Rafael Lizarraga, executive director of the aquarium, highlighted that this event marks the third major cleanup effort undertaken by the marine facility. The World Oceans Day celebration serves as an annual reminder of the importance of protecting our oceans and beaches, which is a cause closely aligned with MazConciencia’s mission to raise awareness about environmental issues.
The beach cleanup will take place on Saturday, June 7th at 7:00 a.m., with various stakeholders already committing to participate. These include hotel associations, important institutions, Mazatlán FC, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Beach Operator.
The public is invited to join the effort, which aims to engage local families, visitors, students, and the general community in protecting marine ecosystems. Cleanup groups will be organized at three locations: Playa Pinitos adjacent to the Casa del Marino, Playa Norte, and Playa Zona Dorada within the Costa Marinera area.
Lizarraga stressed that this initiative is a crucial effort to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our oceans and beaches. The aquarium’s ongoing collaboration with MazConciencia on beach cleanups and other environmental initiatives demonstrates its commitment to promoting sustainability and preserving marine life in the region.
