Cancun and Tulum continue to rank among the top destinations in Mexico for international female travelers. According to the Ministry of Tourism, these two cities in Quintana Roo were among the country’s four most preferred locations in 2024.
Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, the Secretary of Tourism, reported that Tulum leads the national rankings with 59 percent of female travel preferences, while Cancun closely follows with 53.7 percent. Both cities are highly regarded for their welcoming and safe travel environments.
Rodríguez highlighted that Tulum, in particular, stands out for its appeal to single female travelers, who make up 59 percent of its international tourism. Other popular destinations for solo female travelers include Oaxaca, with 53.8 percent, and Los Cabos, with 53.4 percent, following closely behind Cancun.
Regarding the prominence of Cancun and Tulum, Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama commented, “This confirms the rising trend of female tourism in the state, where women seek not only relaxation but also authentic and safe experiences.”
Governor Lezama added, “In this New Era of Tourism, Quintana Roo destinations are embracing a more inclusive, responsible, and women-friendly approach. Visitors can enjoy a diverse range of experiences, from wellness and relaxation to adventure and culture, all within a secure and respectful environment.”
The Ministry of Tourism noted that in the first 11 months of 2024, 10.2 million international female travelers arrived in Mexico by air, marking a 2.4 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
More than half of these travelers choose destinations in Quintana Roo, solidifying the state’s position as a top choice for female tourists. According to the Ministry of the Interior (SEGOB), women accounted for 51.1 percent of all international tourists arriving in Mexico by air.

In 2025, both Cancun and Tulum are expected to remain favorites for their vibrant nightlife, pristine beaches, and rich cultural experiences.
