Mayor of Mazatlán rules out damages after the Presidio River overflows

Descarta Alcalde de Mazatlán afectaciones tras desbordamiento del Río Presidio

Following the recent events that occurred in El Walamo on Thursday evening, where the Presidio River completely overflowed and put the residents of the community on alert, Mayor Edgar González Zataráin mentioned in an interview this Friday that the Civil Protection staff had already taken charge of the situation and nothing serious happened.

In light of the high water level that the river took in the last few hours, the Mayor explained that it happened because the dam that supplies the river has a good level, in addition to stating that the residents can be calm, since the situation is controlled by people specialized in these cases.

“Fortunately, nothing serious happened, fortunately Civil Protection was there, Eloy Ruiz was aware of everything, he always kept me informed, and what is happening is that they are opening the current because the dam has a good level at this time,” said González Zataráin.

“So, what happens is that they open the water outlet and there is a spillway for when the level rises, but nothing bad happened, no problems, nothing serious happened, it was more than a scare, since the residents were used to the river flow not rising, but everything is normal.”

“The report that they have given me from Civil Protection is that the situation is under control; I have not gone to see how the situation is there, but Civil Protection has already taken care of everything with the rising river and everything is under control.”

MAYOR EXPECTS THAT BLOCKAGE TO BEACH ACCESS IN SÁBALO CERRITOS WILL GO TO COURT

Regarding the dispute that the residents of 8 subdivisions of Sábalo Cerritos are currently having with a condominium tower on Playa Linda Street in Villa al Mar over the blocking of access to beaches, Edgar González said that he understands the anger of the people when they see that they blocked the passage that he has always used, but he commented that since it is a fight between individuals, it may end up in court.

“People got upset and with good reason they removed the blockade, and how good indeed; I say how good, because despite the fact that it is a private property, there is a conflict between individuals, there is an issue between individuals, so we will have to see if this will have to end up in court.”

He added that the actions of the neighbors in knocking down the construction of the wall that covered the pedestrian crossing are a consequence of the fact that the procedures are very slow in reaching a verdict, although he does not know what statutes these units or private concessionaires have.

“If the neighbors worked up the courage and did that (knock down the wall), then go ahead, because there are procedures and they are very slow, so many people do not like it and act on their own, but that is an internal matter, it is not a public road nor is it the responsibility of the municipality; we know that it is an access that they have always had due to customs and practices to enter the beaches, but in reality I do not know how they are integrated into that unit, they must have their statutes.”

“When there are complaints or when the citizens themselves act, that is when we find out about these cases.”
