Study conducted to resolve flooding next to Mazatlán shopping mall

To solve the problem of flooding that occurs during the rainy season next to a well-known shopping plaza located between the International Highway 15 Mexico-Nogales and the Oscar Perez Escobosa Avenue, in El Venadillo, a hydrological study is being carried out, said Mayor Edgar Gonzalez Zatarain.

“A study is being done there because we have to think about solving that underlying problem, it was poorly constructed since the plaza was built (before Sendero, now Acaya), they left a duct as if it were something minor, it is insufficient, it has to be broken, a hydrological study has to be done there and all that water removed,” said Gonzalez Zatarain in an interview with media personnel.

“Right now it has not caused major problems like it has caused in other years.”

He recalled that two years ago the rainwater flooded that area, it dammed up and reached the Alarcón subdivision where it also caused flooding.

“So it is an important point because there was a natural basin, it was like a kind of regulating vessel and from there the water came out, it flowed like a kind of stream, …we are already there, Civil Protection has already come, Public Works is already on that issue, we have to continue insisting because that work has to be broken and the work has to be redone, the work is very poorly done,” stressed the Municipal President this Wednesday.

“What is inside (the shopping plaza) has to be the company because the company when they built the plaza did not leave enough flow and those who were governing at that time did not pay attention to it either, they let the case go, they should have been stricter there, it is not a new issue, it is an issue of years, since it was built and that has been causing more and more problems, so we are on top of that issue.”
