Dozens of families travel from Mazatlán and other towns to the Concordia stream and the river located south of the port

This Sunday dozens of families, as well as groups of friends and neighbors, traveled from Mazatlán to the town of El Magistral, to “flee” from the high temperatures of the port and enjoy the stream.

“I come with my friends and my neighbors, we agreed to come now, every year and every Sunday we come here, when it is the season to come to the river,” said Lorena García, who enjoyed the day with a group of friends and neighbors.

The Mazatlecos choose the El Magistral stream, as a place of escape, when the strong heat arrives, and the rainy season begins. The body of water is part of the Baluarte River, it is located just 10 kilometers from the municipality of Concordia.

Mrs. María Teresa Castillo mentioned that she and her family traveled from Mazatlán to bathe in the El Magistral stream, taking advantage of the fact that it already had water and thus spend some time at ease, enjoying the tranquility.

The rains of the last few weeks reactivated tourism in this area, once again making it a good option for getting out of the city and even leaving aside the spas and beaches.

Olga, who is from the municipality of Concordia, pointed out that they also use the proximity to visit this site, this time she was accompanied by her husband’s family and they organized to make roast meat under the big trees of the place .

“It is very convenient to come here and right now, because of the weather, coming to the river is perfect, we have a girl and it is not dangerous for the children, or anything,” Olga said.

“It’s super good, come turn around and spend a super nice day with your family,” said the woman from Concordia, inviting Mazatlecos to visit El Magistral.

This attraction in the middle of the mountains, year after year, is one of the favorite places for many people in Mazatlan, due to its vegetation, water currents and cool climate.

People agree and there are those who bring what they are going to eat and drink already prepared, others carry everything they need and assemble the roast beef right there.

In the case of those who are not prepared and decide to stop on their way through El Magistral, there are some stalls where they can buy from the traditional fritters and gorditas to roast chicken, in addition to enjoying the famous shaved ice from Concordia.

“What they ask for a lot are the buñuelos and the gorditas, which is what is here and now, the rest is like chicken, tamales, because there are many people who go to the mountains and arrive, and there are times when they do not bring clothes to bathe, but they still go by and buy”, narrated Iris, a girl from this community who runs a food stall.

As Iris mentioned, August is the month with the most influx, so there are long lines of vehicles on the side of the stream and on the road.

“Right now, it is empty, last year there was the entire highway and there was only one lane on the bridge, it was all full, like it was in August,” Iris said.

The sales that are activated in the community are sources of temporary employment, since, according to Iris, they do not have a job there and have to leave El Magistral and look for work in Concordia and even Mazatlán, for which she asks people to go, do not hesitate to consume what they sell.

She also made a call that if they go and spend the day enjoying the place, pick up their garbage and take it with you, visitors should not leave it in the area to avoid contamination of the stream.

El Magistral, a community just over 10 kilometers from Concordia, next to a stream that strengthens the Baluarte River and that has become a tourist attraction in the middle of the mountains.

The Presidio River in Villa Union

Another option to vary from a typical trip to the beaches and resorts of Mazatlán, can be the Río Presidio in the Sindicatura de Villa Unión, just 23 kilometers to the South.

This Sunday it was also possible to observe how the influx of visitors increased, mainly from the people who live there in the community, but there is never a lack of Mazatlan families who decide to enjoy coexistence in the stream under the bridge, to gain shade.

The cars with music, the people playing the “little water fights” and those who are prepared with food and drinks, is a postcard that is repeated every year in this rainy season, people take advantage of the fact that the Presidio River is loaded with water and feed this body of water to visit it.

On weekends it gets crowded and even more when it is already full of water, commented some young people who were leaning on their car, on the bank of the stream and listening to music at full volume.

And in the distance a small group of girls and boys enjoyed the tranquility of the river current, played and had competitions for the best jump, others prepared to dive under the bridge.

For this season in which these types of places become so popular, Civil Protection personnel recommend not entering while intoxicated, nor when they have recently consumed food, as well as using the appropriate clothing to have good mobility, they also emphasize not swim if the current increases or if the river has a high level.
