MAZATLAN. – Sinaloa has the advantage of having two ports for the arrival of cruise ships, Topolobampo, in Ahome, and Mazatlán, the latter one of the most popular at the national level in terms of the flow of its visitors, totaling approximately 342,000 people who have visited for the first time the destination aboard a ship.

The Ministry of Tourism reported that at the end of May, the port had received around 72 cruise ships, managing to increase the flow of visitors both in urban and rural areas, generating a significant economic benefit in the region.

“In the course of May seven of these vessels arrived at the port and next Wednesday they will close the month with the arrival of Carnival Panorama, which has visited us four times in this period and two more from the Navigator of the Seas, with 33 thousand 347 visitors between all of them,” reported Estrella Palacios Domínguez, Secretary of Tourism in Sinaloa.

She pointed out that cruise tourism is one of the segments that generates the greatest economic benefit in the destination, spending an average of between 80 and 150 dollars per person, between restaurants, tours and handicrafts.

The same happens with the visits they make to the rural area of the municipality such as La Noria, El Quelite; In addition, from the trips to Concordia and Copala, among others, where they get to know and enjoy the natural beauties and the gastronomy, they are pleased with the good treatment of the people.

Cruise tourism grows year after year, according to Datatur

According to Datatur, the comprehensive tourism analysis platform at the federal level, there is greater growth among cruise arrivals this year compared to those of 2022; Although the platform cut is until March of this year, it did increase around 14 percent, from 47 in the first quarter of 2022 to 54 arrivals from January to March 2023.

This, they reported, translates into approximately 93,644 more visitors this year, almost double the number of visitors in the first quarter of 2022, which was 92,420 between passengers and crew; The number of passengers by ship even increased, from 1,967 passengers traveling by ship to 3,447 passengers, an approximate growth of 73 percent.

At the national level, in the first quarter of 2023, around 2 million 978 thousand cruise passengers arrived at the different ports of the country, which represents an increase of 85.3 percent compared to the same period last year, and 8.5 percent. compared to the first quarter of 2019.
