In order of reducing road accidents in the city, and closing the year with a white balance, authorities will place four mobile checkpoints with the support of the Municipal Police.

MAZATLAN. – After having poor results in the Christmas operation by the security authorities in the city, where five people lost their lives in road accidents, the Ministry of Public Security in Mazatlán and Municipal Transit announced that the hours of the Breathalyzer will be extended in the city.

In the same line, this strategy seeks to considerably reduce the number of road accidents, for this reason the Breathalyzer operation will be extended until 6:00 in the morning, which will have four mobile checkpoints together with the Municipal Police, during the New Year’s weekend.

Juan Sergio Camacho Torres, deputy director of Traffic, stressed that at each point there will be municipal and traffic police, who will be transferring people who are caught with alcoholic breath to the Ministry of Public Security, while the vehicle will be stopped.

“The Breathalyzer operation will begin this Wednesday and will be extended until 6:00 in the morning, starting at 10:00 p.m., while in conjunction with the Municipal Police it will begin on Thursday to implement 4 more operations,” said Camacho Torres

The commander made it clear that at the other checkpoints he will not have a doctor on site, only the Breathalyzer will have a doctor and any person detained with alcoholic breath will be transferred for a medical check-up and there the degree they bring will be determined.

He added that people who are determined not to have a sufficient level of alcohol will be transferred back to the place they were detained, and their vehicle will be released, the intention is clear: to avoid more accidents and deaths in traffic, especially at the last weekend of the year.

“If you’re going to have a party, don’t drink or bring a designated driver,” he said.

Finally, he rejected that this operation is a tax collection operation and made it clear that people who are arrested for this problem will have to pay a fine of 5,000 pesos.
