MAZATLÁN, Mexico — Óscar Roberto Osuna Tirado, the director of Municipal Civil Protection in Mazatlán, survived an armed attack on Wednesday morning while traveling in an official agency vehicle.
The ambush occurred on Gutiérrez Nájera Avenue in the Montuosa neighborhood. According to eyewitnesses, gunmen riding a red motorcycle intercepted the official truck and opened fire, striking the vehicle around 12 times. A companion traveling with Osuna Tirado was also injured during the assault.
Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care. Municipal authorities later confirmed that Osuna Tirado is in stable condition, having suffered a graze wound to the head.
In response to the shooting, elements of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat, the Mexican Army, the Navy, and state police launched a joint security operation to secure the area and search for the perpetrators. Forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General del Estado) arrived at the scene to gather evidence and open a formal investigation.
Local political figures have called for heightened security strategies following the incident, while city officials stated that no prior threats against the Civil Protection director had been reported.
