MAZATLAN. – The effects of erosion seem to have worsened on the beaches of Mazatlán which, in combination with high tide and the effects left by meteorological phenomena, have caused the beaches of the port to disappear.
For bathers and tourist service providers, it is impossible to stay in the sand area, not only because the tide is high, but also because this phenomenon drags the sand and exposes the rocky area.
Where the greatest impact has been noticed is in the area of palapas next to the Monument to the Fisherman, in the place you can see a beach full of rocks that makes it difficult for bathers to enjoy normally.
For this reason, some days the beaches remained completely closed to bathers, currently, access is moderate or with restrictions in certain sections.
Fidel Garzón, the owner of the “El Muelle” palapa, said that this situation is not new and that it has been 5 years in a row that the same problem has been registered, a situation that gets worse year after year.
“It is not new, it began to be registered five years ago, but it has been getting worse, I feel that each year the problem becomes more aggressive. I imagine all this because of climate change, we need to do something now.”
Beach erosion has also caused merchants in the area to have few sales since people come looking for the beach, sun, and sand, and not a space where there are only rocks.
“It has been difficult, I tell you, this is not new, but this year the beach erosion has been very strong, and people do not want to come to eat here in the area, it is people who come from places that do not have beaches and well that It’s what they’re looking for.”
