Culiacán, Sinaloa.- The Secretary of Health reported that the laboratory tests carried out on three patients who presented symptoms of having been infected with monkeypox were positive.

These are three resident patients from Mazatlan who were detected earlier this week with symptoms of the disease.

These are already in isolation and under treatment.

According to the statement from the Ministry of Health, with these there are eight patients who have tested positive for monkeypox since last July, when the first case was detected in Sinaloa.

Symptoms of monkeypox

The clinical signs of monkeypox are usually fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes, and it can cause a variety of medical complications .

It is usually a self-limited illness, with symptoms lasting 2 to 4 weeks. It can cause serious pictures.

Regarding its lethality, it has a rate of between 3 and 6 percent.

It is spread from one person to another by close contact with injuries, body fluids, respiratory droplets, and contaminated materials such as clothing.

It can be spread from the time symptoms appear until the rash has disappeared, all scabs have fallen off, and a new layer of skin has formed.

There is no specific approved treatment for monkeypox. Health care providers can treat monkeypox with the antiviral drugs used to treat smallpox.
