The president of Fecanaco reported that the strongest damages were registered in the restaurants of Isla de la Piedra in Mazatlán.

A total of 47 businesses of different types were minorly affected by the effects of Hurricane “Kay” in Sinaloa, revealed Miguel Hernández Fonseca.

The president of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism in Sinaloa explained that those who suffered the most serious damage were the restaurants located on Isla de la Piedra, in Mazatlán, while the others only reported flooding and leaks, especially establishments located in low- lying areas.

” We have the report that there were 47 businesses that were affected throughout the state, only minimal damage. There are no closed businesses, all are operating normally,” he said.

In the case of the restaurants in the beach area on Del Mar Avenue, they had to collect the furniture to prevent it from being washed away by the strong waves that are recorded in Mazatlan .

Hernández Fonseca commented that most of the reports were sent from Ahome, Guamúchil, Guasave and Salvador Alvarado.

The leader of the merchants called to be attentive to the weather conditions and the recommendations of the corresponding authorities, in order to prevent any mishap in this rainy season.

In addition, he highlighted the timely response of Civil Protection in Mazatlan, which immediately came to provide assistance to the population that was affected by the floods.

Damage assessment

According to the damage assessment carried out by municipal officials, in Mazatlan, there were at least two establishments with visible damage caused by the storm surge, added to the 12 restaurants on Isla de la Piedra and the 200 umbrellas or palapas that were affected in that place.
