MAZATLAN. – If you were waiting for the direct flight from Mazatlán to Spain to live the experience of La Casa de Papel or the Cheetah Girls, keep saving, because the president of the Association of Hotels and Tourist Companies of Mazatlán, Carlos Berdegué Sacristán, does not envision this flight not in 10 years.
He mentioned that Mazatlan is not known in Europe and even recently opened a direct flight with Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, and Cancun, Quintana Roo, two of the best-known sun and beach destinations internationally.
“Far away, they wouldn’t have to come. We don’t see ourselves in the short term, they just put in a direct flight to Los Cabos and they just put in Cancun, I don’t see that we are on the radar of the European lines”, he declared.
This idea of a direct flight to Spain is a dream sought by state and municipal authorities, and even tourism entrepreneurs, who have high expectations with the arrival of the Mexican ambassador to Spain, the former governor, Quirino Ordaz Coppel.
– Not even in ten years?, Berdegué Sacristán was asked.
“I have no idea, but I don’t think it will be in the short term. They would have to fly to destinations that are more profitable, Mazatlán is not known in Europe, why go to a destination that they do not know? It will be very difficult, there are things that cannot be achieved, that are time-consuming and expensive, you have to invest in the short term and give solutions to destiny”, he said.
It is the mayor Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres who has launched this proposal and Mazatlán even participated in the International Tourism Fair in Spain, the most important fair for the tourism sector worldwide, with the idea of promoting and making itself known and thus attract European tourism.
If a Spaniard had the intention of visiting Mazatlán, he would have to take a flight to Mexico City, transfer and get on another to the “Pearl of the Pacific” or take a flight to Los Cabos and from there travel to Mazatlán, either on the ferry or by plane.
With a view to Mazatlán achieving air connectivity with Madrid, Spain, the Secretary General of the Concanaco Servytur in Mexico, Guillermo Romero Rodríguez, met with the Ambassador of Mexico in Spain, Quirino Ordaz Coppel.
At the meeting, which seeks to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Mexico and Spain, the possibility of making the flight between Spain and Mazatlan a reality was discussed.
The port of Mazatlan has different Spanish tourist companies, so making this a reality could be achieved in the not too distant future.
It should be noted that in the last hours of the inaugural Madrid-Cabo San Lucas flight was given, the response that the new route has had has been incredible, having a full house on the part of the visitors.
Currently, the air connections that Mexico and Spain share are Madrid-Cabo San Lucas, Madrid-Cancun, Madrid-Guadalajara, Madrid-Mexico City, and Madrid-Monterrey.
