The director of the Municipal Youth Institute, Luis Arnulfo Vargas, reported that this rehabilitation adds a library so that young people can get closer to reading.

MAZATLAN.- The Linear Park Skate Park, better known as the “Youth Park”, now has a new face where Mazatlecos can do recreational activities without excuses.

It is a space that was rehabilitated by the Municipal Youth Institute with an approximate resource of 170 thousand pesos, rescuing an area that had been neglected for a couple of years and that even, as stated by the director of the IMJU, Luis Arnulfo Vargas.

“This was practically a space that was abandoned for a long time, obviously the abandonment led to it being completely vandalized and many areas were almost destroyed, what did we do? Enable all these spaces,” he declared.

This “Youth Park” is located between the neighborhoods of Infonavit Alarcón, Misiones, Valles del Ejido, and other nearby neighborhoods, becoming a safe place for young people who love bicycle, skateboard, and roller acrobatics, since the closest one was up to kilometer zero.

There will be library

To this remodeling, Luis Arnulfo Vargas commented that libraries were enabled, in order to bring loving readers closer to the park and that through the literature that they like, they can create reading clubs.

Also, in these spaces or modules, awareness talks will be implemented, ranging from addiction prevention, sex education, among others, all these free activities.

“It will be a specialized library for young people, obviously it will be varied with all kinds of books, but specifically, it will be specialized in young people, lately they request it,” added the municipal official.

According to data from the IMJU, this area of the linear park receives up to 200 young people a day, who seek these recreational and sports spaces to spend afternoons with friends, in a healthy environment and which, assured the director of this para-municipal, will be monitored by Municipal Police.

For his part, the mayor, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, pointed out that these spaces are essential and that their rescue is a fundamental part of the well-being of a city like Mazatlán, especially when there are servers willing to do so.

“I congratulate the directors who put their batteries to get this area, which is not only sports and library, it is a place to give talks to young people and I love the model to continue replicating it in other areas of the city”, commented.

The library will have hours from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; The skate park will also have a closing time until 11:00 p.m., in order to prevent criminals from entering and damaging the recently rehabilitated space.

It was in 2016 that the former mayor, Carlos Felton González, inaugurated the linear park, separating it by sections and activities on the entire Óscar Pérez Escobosa avenue, where you will find, in addition to the skate park, a children’s oasis, a pet area, a bike path, candles for exercise, grills and benches to spend the afternoons, in fact, it is one of the most sought after places to exercise.
