“We are implementing new protocol strategies, and later the mayor will meet with the Health and Safety Council in the Municipality to rethink some issues,” said Nayla Velarde Narváez

Mazatlan Sinaloa. – Due to the rebound in active cases of COVID in Mazatlan, the Mayor’s Office, through the Commerce sub directorate, will reinforce the health protocols and now, yes, it will proceed to suspend businesses for not complying with the guidelines and everything, in order to reduce the risks of contagion and avoid a greater “rebound” in the destination, warned Nayla Velarde Narváez.

The Senior Official referred that, as an authority, they have not stopped applying sanctions to bars, clubs, and restaurants for failing to comply with the health protocols; however, given the increase in cases, the sanctions will be more severe, which can go as far as the closure of the business.

“We have not stopped applying sanctions, but I think we are going to start applying suspensions because we are filling ourselves with sanctions and we continue to sanction them. Look, for example; this weekend in total we had 18 fines in clubs, bars, and restaurants; one of them was actually going to get suspended, but he was given another chance and a slightly more hefty fine was applied to them,” he pointed out.

The local official commented that if the increase in active cases of the SARS-COV-2 virus continues, the Municipal President and the Health Committee could order the reduction of capacity as a preventive measure.

“We are implementing new protocol strategies, and later the mayor will meet with the Health and Safety Council in the Municipality to rethink some issues”

“…in terms of events, we have already been instructed to be stricter with protocols and with capacity because in some places, for the same reason that it is 90 percent, practically people already do it 100 percent,” reported.

Velarde Narváez specified that the health protocols in the markets and in the local flea markets will also be reinforced because all of us – he said – “we got on a ‘wave’ of relaxation” because they were already without a mask. Therefore, it will be necessary to put a heavy hand again.
