Mayor Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres assures that other destinations seek to discredit Mazatlán because they consider it strong competition.
The mayor of Mazatlán, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, affirmed that the city is experiencing a kind of boycott by other tourist destinations in Mexico, something that for him is not accidental.
The holidays have already arrived in Mazatlan, Holy Week started today in the city, receiving thousands of national and state tourists, who could be seen early outside the port hotels.
Visitors, mostly from Torreón, Durango, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Toluca, and Chihuahua, are already staying in Mazatlán to spend a week full of joy, sun, and beach.
Del Mar Avenue was also full of visitors, who took advantage of the heat to go to the beaches or take a souvenir photos on the boardwalk.
After registering a full house for this Holy Week, in just the first weekend of the holiday period, he stated that the destination became one of the favorites, being an important competition.
“Mazatlán is an expensive destination already. They are showing that there is danger on the roads, I do not know of any case that has happened on the roads. What happens is that the destinations that had the largest number of tourists have already seen that Mazatlán is serious competition,” said Benítez Torres.
The mayor said that this is because other destinations have a lot of economic power, and in the media, these ideas are spread so that people are discouraged from coming to Mazatlan.
He commented that despite these indications the city is experiencing a high influx of tourists.
