Following the recommendation made by the State Commission for Human Rights, the mayor of Mazatlán assured that he is always respectful of the law.

Mazatlán, Sin.- The mayor of Mazatlán, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, confirmed that he is going to offer an apology to the concessionaires of the Teodoro Mariscal stadium, the Toledo family, as recommended by the State Human Rights Commission.

He affirmed that he is very respectful of the law, and that if they ask him, he will do it, because it does not cost him anything.

“I’m not going to argue, you know how I think, ” he said.

“Are you going to offer an apology, Mayor?”

“Of course, I will always go on the side of the law, they will never find me outside the law and I have to comply with it, it is my obligation,” he said.

However, the mayor said he does not know when he will apologize because he only just learned of the recommendation on Thursday.

He avoided saying whether with this recommendation from the ECHR the judge could agree with the Toledo family in the litigation that the City Council holds for the concession of the Teodoro Mariscal baseball stadium.

“I am not interested in giving an opinion on what the judge can do, I am nobody to judge the judges, what I do is my job, to recover the stadium and they do theirs, I do not know their progress,” he said.

It was in 2018 when the concessionaires of the Teodoro Mariscal stadium filed a complaint with the ECHR, after the mayor of Mazatlán and some City Council officials assured that they had clandestine drinking water connections.

The lawsuit filed by the company Espectáculos Costa del Pacífico, concessionaire of the stadium, to Jumapam, was lost by the para-municipal, so it will have to return the fine that those now affected paid, of 2.9 million pesos.

This Thursday, the CEDH reported that the Mazatlán City Council violated the rights of the concessionaires of the Teodoro Mariscal Stadium by denying them operations on the grounds that they had pending payments for the drinking water service and accusing them of having clandestine water connections.
