Visits and income of the Mazatlán Aquarium decrease in 2021

The aquatic enclosure has not yet recovered from the effects of the pandemic, registering a capacity of 38.2% less than 2019.

Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- During the summer vacation period of this year, including the months of July and August, the Mazatlán Aquarium registered the visit of 127 thousand 079 people and obtained income in the order of 16 million 069 thousand 036 pesos, which is which represents a lower figure of 38.2% and 23%, compared to that obtained in 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic.

According to data obtained via access to information, provided by the Transparency Unit of that paramunicipal, Acuario Mazatlán registered an income of 205 thousand 715 people in the summer vacation period of 2019, that is, 78 thousand 639 people more than this year, while in 2020, the figure was just 69 thousand 138 visitors.

Regarding economic income, in the summer season of 2019 this recreational area obtained 209 million 984 thousand 377 pesos, in 2020 the figure fell to 7 million 204 thousand 179, and in this year it registered 16 million 069 thousand 036, whose amount it is 4 million 915 thousand 341 pesos lower than that obtained before the health emergency, with respect to the same vacation period.

In contrast, the Aquarium spent during 2020, the sum of 38.4 million pesos that were invested in 16 new projects, in which the Pingüinario stand out, the construction of an external parking lot, the purchase of two units for the program “Muévete Maz ”, The remodeling of its museum and the construction of commercial premises inside. This despite the fact that this year it will close its doors as an aquatic center.

As an effect of the coronavirus pandemic, last year visits and income per entrance to the Aquarium, decreased to 155% and 120%, respectively.
