Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Three bars in the Cancun Hotel Zone, four in Playa del Carmen and another four in Tulum were part of the recent closures that took place during government inspections.

A total of 11 establishments were shut after government officials from Secretaría de Finanzas y Planeación (Sefiplan) and Seguridad Pública de Quintana Roo made inspection rounds to ensure those open were abiding by the state’s sanitary protocols.

Sefiplan head Yohanet Torres Muñoz said that “Governor Carlos Joaquín is very clear about safeguarding the health of citizens and tourists in Quintana Roo which is why, following the State Epidemiological Traffic Light, establishments with sales of alcoholic beverages are supervised to ensure they adhere to the allowed operating hours according to the color that corresponds to them by area.”

In the municipality of Benito Juárez, establishments in the Cancun center and Cancun Hotel Zone were visited, where three restaurants-bars were closed for remaining open and continuing with the sale of alcohol outside the indicated hours.

In Tulum, four establishments were closed, three of them for having parties with more than 30 people without keeping a healthy distance and continuing to sell alcohol during extraordinary hours. One of them was shut for being an opened beach club when the current light system means all beaches remain closed.

Several bars were shut for failing to comply with the new normal health protocols

As a result of the tour in Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen), four establishments were closed, one of them for not having operating documents and three others for not following directions for opening under the state light system

One place was seized by state inspectors after they located an underground canteen in the town of Chunhubuh in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, due to citizen complaints.
