Sandstorm prevents visibility on Mexico Highways


Winds were forecast with gusts of over 50 kilometers per hour for the western coast of the Baja California Peninsula, as well as in Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and Sonora

A sandstorm was recorded in the afternoon, around 3:00 p.m., caused by high winds, on the MX15 road on the Empalme-Ciudad Obregón stretch, so the Civil Protection authorities called for extreme precautions in the absence of visibility. 

However, the sandstorm on the road to the Empalme-Obregón highway caused a vehicle accident due to lack of visibility.


The authorities recommended that if it is better, stop your road until the driving conditions improve.

Meanwhile, the Captaincy of Puerto Guaymas reported the closure of the port to navigation for smaller vessels, the above due to high waves and sustained winds of 24 knots with gusts of 26 knots.

The National Meteorological Service predicted for today wind with gusts of more than 50 kilometers per hour (km / h) for the western coast of the Peninsula of Baja California, coasts of Campeche and Yucatan, as well as in Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and Sonora.

They warned that in the next few hours, heavy point rains are forecast in most of Sonora, so extreme caution should be exercised when traveling on roads and following recommendations from the authorities.
