Minors who commit serious crimes in Mexico may go to jail

Minors from the age of 14, who are accused of having committed serious crimes, will be able to obtain preventive detention for up to five months, as stated by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation.

The SCJN accepted the General Law of the Integral System of Justice for Adolescents, with eight votes in favor and three against.

Children accused of organized crime, drug trafficking, homicide, extortion, trafficking in persons, terrorism, and robbery will receive their punishment before they wait until they reach the age of majority
