About Warren Schlosser’s International Trek for Awareness

Warren is a 60-year-old Canadian resident from Alberta, Canada. In 2006, he was in a serious highway crash as a passenger in a semi-truck and has been confined to a wheelchair ever since. He resides in Mazatlán during the winter, which he has done for the last 10 years.

The International Trek for Awareness is a project that will take Warren through three countries via wheelchair for a total distance of 3231 miles (over 5200 kilometers). Nothing motorized for Warren, just he and his titanium wheelchair rolling down the highway pulling a small lightweight trailer. I will be traveling with Warren and documenting not only the journey, but Warrens story and the adversity he has had to overcome.

Beginning July 1st, 2019, Warren will commence on an epic journey from Calgary, AB, CA  that will conclude in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, MX sometime in December 2019. This project is the result of three and half years of research and preparation.

The endeavor will be an effort to demonstrate that disabled people can still do amazing things, reach beyond their limitations, and function in society in productive and meaningful ways. Many people in Warrens situation simply give up… and Warren’s message to them is YOU DON’T HAVE TO GIVE UP!.

We are also raising funds for several charities… two in each of the three countries we’ll be traveling through. We are currently seeking support for the effort in terms of necessary equipment, costs of safe   travel and medical care throughout the trek, useful supplies and necessities for life on the road, and monetary funds to fill the gaps when necessary.

Route: Alberta, Saskatchewan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Coahuila, Sinaloa, is the designated route for the journey which will conclude on the Malecon of Mazatlán.

We think this is a great opportunity to raise a significant sum for each of the six wonderful charitable organizations. After expenses, any funds left over from our fund-raising efforts will be divided equally between them.

The organizations are:
Canada: Stars Air Ambulance and CMNGD (Supports Homeless Rehabilitation)
USA: American Cancer Society and American Wheelchair Foundation
Mexico: La Immaculada Elderly Care and Mazatlán Animal Rescue.

There will be weekly live video updates, social media posts, radio and television media relations, and eventually a book that will tell Warrens story in its entirety, including the 5k wheelchair endeavor. We are hopeful that we can gain some support, and at the same time, bring awareness and exposure to various entities and charitable organizations.

Please follow along as we embark on this epic International Trek for Awareness. If you’ve donated or intend to, we would like to thank you sincerely and your support is greatly appreciated.

With Sincere Gratitude,

Warren Schlosser
