The pound of shrimp for export is paid at six dollars a pound and the national 90 pesos a kilo

Mazatlan, Sin. The low volumes of catch, the price in the market and the high operatingcosts have caused that the fishing producers do not take out the expenses.

The president of the Union of Shipowners of the Coast, Jesus Omar Lizárraga, confirmed that in the fishing season 2018-2019, prices of shrimp in the United States market have fallen 20%. He said that this situation has forced them to no longer take boats out due to incosteability, however, they have reported that in recent weeks there has been a rebound in this product, although small.

For his part, the president of the Canainpesca Sinaloa Delegation, Jaime Osuna Magaña, explained that the cost of the crustacean in the international market does not exceed six dollars per pound.

If we see that there is little production, very high costs and the price is very low, then we are in ruins, in fact we all have problems right now to continue operating, for that reason.

On the other hand, the leader of the Federation of Fishing Cooperatives of Altamar, Carlos Rojas, recalled that from the list of exit prices, they decreased the price up to three dollars per pound.

He indicated that sizes 21/25, 16/20, U15 and a little U12, had a decrease of 20% compared to last year, in the export measures and the louse you pay as they want.

He added that the national product has decreased to 50 pesos per kilo, since the first trip of the previous harvest was paid at 140 pesos per kilo and, this year, the season started at 110 pesos per kilo and is already at 90 pesos.

“It is a mafia of the winemakers and hoarders that force people to sell as they want, they need money,” he complained.
