Staff from various businesses in downtown Mazatlán blocked Aquiles Serdán Street this Friday to demand the restoration of electrical service after remaining without power for several hours.

The protesters blocked the road between Genaro Estrada and Melchor Ocampo streets, next to the José María Pino Suárez Municipal Market.
The blockade, carried out on one of the main access routes to downtown, forced buses and motorists to use alternative streets, including Benito Juárez and Teniente José Azueta.
A manager of a shoe store said the power outage began the previous day and that, despite filing reports, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) only informed them that service would take between three and four hours to restore, but no personnel arrived at the scene.
“We blocked the street to protest so they would pay attention to us,” she said while the road remained closed shortly before noon.
Urban and Regional Planning
The business owner stated that the outage affected at least one entire block and that the lack of electricity drove customers away, while also forcing several businesses to accept cash payments only.
Minutes after the protest began, personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) arrived at the site to address the merchants’ complaints.
