According to local hotel industry forecasts, these predictions came true from Friday to Sunday, with visitors arriving from various states across Mexico taking advantage of the long weekend for the Teachers’ Council meeting.

The largest influx of tourist families was seen in different areas of Mazatlán, strolling along the boardwalk, enjoying the beaches, shops, and other attractions, as confirmed by Francis Cázares Olivares, president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco Servytur).

She said that the day off for schools nationwide, due to the teachers’ meeting, was used by many to take a break in the port city and enjoy its beaches and attractions.

Cázares Olivares estimated that hotel occupancy reached an average of 80 percent this weekend.

“Everyone involved in the tourism industry anticipated a very successful weekend. We hope people continue to trust our destination and come to have fun,” she commented.

Advance bookings had reached 40 to 50 percent for this time of year, coinciding with the last school break and the end of the first half of the year.

José Ramón Manguart Sánchez agreed that weekend occupancy averages around 80 percent, but drops to 30 to 40 percent during the rest of the week.

Despite this, he noted that Mazatlán is showing a gradual recovery, achieving these numbers in bookings and recent tourist arrivals, as was the case in May.

The president of the Tres Islas Hotel Association highlighted the preference of the regional and national market for vacationing in the city, a result of the intensive efforts they have been making to maintain the Mazatlán brand’s relevance.

Therefore, they will continue to reinforce this with discounts and promotions to ensure that occupancy rates are not only high on weekends, but also for more than three days a week, the hotelier added.
