With the goal of providing families with a healthy morning of togetherness, the Rotary Club of Mazatlán announced the second annual Walkathon, a charity walk that will take place this year at Teodoro Mariscal Baseball Stadium.

At a press conference on Monday, May 11, 2026, the organizing committee, headed by Club President Alfredo Ruelas, announced that the event is open to everyone who wants to participate and support the purchase of polio vaccines through registration fees or donations.

The activity, which promotes physical activity and altruism, is scheduled for Sunday, May 17, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., during which time participants can explore all the grounds of the Mazatlán Venados baseball team.

The organizers estimate that around 750 people of all ages, including people with disabilities, will participate in this year’s event.

The president of the Mazatlán Rotary Club said that fortunately there are no cases of polio in Mexico, but there are in Asia, specifically in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

“Within this great event, the funds raised will go towards combating polio in some countries that unfortunately still have it, but we are also pursuing other objectives of the Rotary Club, which is to promote health by combating stomach illnesses through the purchase of water filtration and purification systems for some elementary schools.”

The president of the Mazatlán Rotary Club recalled that last year they had 800 attendees and raised 72,000 pesos, which was doubled thanks to the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Who are the members of the organizing committee for the 2026 charity walk in Mazatlán?

The members of the organizing committee for the 2026 Walkathon, or Walk for a Cause, are Óscar Tirado, treasurer of the Mazatlán Rotary Club; Silvia Pataki, director of communications; José Manuel Magallón Osuna, secretary of the Mazatlán Rotary Club; Ismael Barros, of the Mazatlán Venados baseball team; as well as Charles Davis and José Manuel Jiménez Morales.
