In an effort to ensure a safe and peaceful Mother’s Day for the citizens of Mazatlán, Mayor Estrella Palacios announced that a monitoring operation is already underway at cemeteries, shopping centers, and churches for May 10th. Emergency services and sanitation and public works employees are participating in the operation.

Under the supervision of Public Safety, Civil Protection, and the Mayor’s Office, the Mayor indicated that access to cemeteries will be restricted to individuals under the influence of drugs, as well as to motorcycles and skateboards, in order to prevent any accidents within the grounds.

“The Mother’s Day operation is already underway, involving the monitoring of cemeteries, shopping centers, and churches. This operation includes having police officers at each cemetery, plaza, and church due to the serenades that are expected in the early morning hours. We will be very vigilant to ensure a peaceful Mother’s Day,” said Palacios Domínguez.

“The entry of alcoholic beverages and substances harmful to health is prohibited. Access with skates, motorcycles, bicycles, or other means of transportation that pose a risk will not be permitted. Pets are allowed, provided their owners are responsible, keep them on a leash, and bring bags for their waste.”

He mentioned that maintenance work at cemeteries began a month ago by workers from Urban Cleaning and Public Services in general, who have been cleaning and rehabilitating Mazatlán’s cemeteries in anticipation of the many visitors expected on Sunday.

“We are almost 100 percent complete; they are ready for people to visit their loved ones with peace of mind, finding everything perfectly clean. This operation involves 27 cemetery workers, six from Parks and Gardens, 12 from Cleaning, and 18 inspectors from the Mayor’s Office.”

He added that, as in previous years, security will be deployed early to monitor the roads and provide assistance to the public at all municipal cemeteries, which will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to receive visitors this Sunday.

Regarding vendors, he noted that there will be oversight of 81 licensed vendors and access control for musical groups, who will be allowed to perform in the cemeteries with up to four members; however, they will not be permitted to bring loudspeakers.

“The public is urged to maintain order, respect, and a positive atmosphere during their visit to the cemeteries. Tomorrow we will be conducting a supervisory tour of the Jardín Cemetery. We are fully prepared to ensure that this Mother’s Day is a success and that it is celebrated peacefully and happily.”
