This coincides with a Morena party summit in Palenque, Chiapas, the current residence of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
This is Morena’s damage control strategy: on the one hand, to feign action, but ultimately, to pave the way for impunity.
They will not allow potential protected witnesses to flee to the United States, where, to avoid spending the rest of their lives in prison, they might reveal inconvenient secrets.
What they will do is have the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) claim it will investigate, only to freeze the matter and then, in two years, assert that they have already investigated and that there is no crime to prosecute.
The FGR, controlled by Morena, has not even brought a single case against any governor (from any party) in eight years.
In contrast, during Peña Nieto’s six-year term, eight governors were imprisoned: seven from the PRI and one from the PAN.
Unequivocal proof that Morena is the most corrupt party in the history of Mexico.
