During the recent morning press conference, the head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch, presented the official progress in the investigation into the tourists from the State of Mexico who disappeared in Mazatlán. This case, which has shocked the public, continues with an uninterrupted search operation by federal and state authorities to locate the victims.

The federal official confirmed the arrest of two people allegedly linked to the kidnapping of the tourists from the State of Mexico. According to García Harfuch, these arrests were carried out through a coordinated operation between the Sinaloa state police and the National Security Cabinet, representing a crucial step in clarifying the events that occurred in early February.

Thanks to the information gathered after these initial arrests, security authorities have identified other alleged perpetrators involved in the kidnapping. The Secretary of Security emphasized that intelligence operations remain active to execute new arrest warrants and completely dismantle the criminal cell responsible for intercepting the young people while they were traveling in recreational vehicles.

Despite the reported progress, the Mexican government’s primary objective remains locating the four men who are still being held alive. It should be noted that, of the original group of six people from the municipality of Ixtlahuaca, a woman and a minor were released hours after the incident, while the rest of the tourists remain missing.

To ensure transparency and institutional support, a direct communication channel has been established with the victims’ families. Following presidential instructions, both Omar García Harfuch and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) are holding regular meetings with those affected, providing them with timely updates on the progress of the investigations and tactical deployments in the region.

Finally, the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection reiterated its commitment to ensuring this crime does not go unpunished, ensuring that the territorial deployment in Sinaloa will remain in place for as long as necessary. Authorities urge the public to cooperate by providing any information that may facilitate the rescue of the tourists from the State of Mexico, emphasizing that their safe return home is the absolute priority.
