The Sinaloa Tourism Secretariat launched the Eco Sinaloa: Clean Beaches, Coasts, and Destinations 2026 campaign in the Mazatlán Lighthouse breakwater area.
The cleanup effort involved authorities from all three levels of government, representatives from the business sector, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and volunteers, who enthusiastically joined this initiative to protect tourist destinations.
Representing the Sinaloa Tourism Secretary, Mireya Sosa Osuna, the activity was led by Celia Jáuregui Ibarra, Undersecretary of Planning, Investment, and Development for the Secretariat.
“Today we are launching the Eco Sinaloa: Clean Beaches, Coasts, and Destinations campaign, a strategy that is part of the state’s Environmental Tourism Sustainability Program and has a very clear objective: to protect our natural resources and strengthen Sinaloa’s tourism competitiveness,” she stated.
The official added that caring for the beaches is not only an environmental decision, but also a strategic one.
“It’s about protecting the image of our destinations, protecting the health of our communities, and safeguarding the economic future of thousands of families who depend on tourism,” she pointed out.
This campaign represents a joint effort between the government, society, and the business sector, aligned with the National Strategy for Cleaning and Conserving Beaches and Coasts, with a vision of sustainable and regenerative tourism.
“This involves not only keeping the space we visit clean, but also leaving it better than we found it. From the Ministry of Tourism, we will continue to promote ongoing cleaning, awareness, and social responsibility initiatives because we know that a clean destination inspires confidence, attracts visitors, and generates well-being. In this vision, we share the principle that guides the work of our governor, Dr. Rubén Rocha Moya, to build development based on humanism that transforms, where environmental protection and the well-being of people always go hand in hand,” she emphasized.
She was accompanied by Renato Ocampo, head of the Sinaloa State Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources’ representative office; María del Carmen Cabrera, representing Admiral Guadalupe Juan José Bernal, commander of the Fourth Naval Region of the Mexican Navy; Nicté Loi Ceceña, Undersecretary of Evaluation and Planning for the Secretariat of Welfare and Sustainable Development; Ximena León Arballo, head of Quality and Environmental Management for the Mazatlán National Port System; and Ana Kelly Dozal, head of Sustainability for the Mazatlán Maritime Terminal.
After an hour of cleaning, 248.94 kilograms of general waste were collected, along with 147.25 kilograms of glass, 60.9 kilograms of PET plastic, and 16.5 kilograms of aluminum, for a total of 473.59 kilograms of the four types of waste.
