Óscar Rentería Schazarino resigned this Thursday as Secretary of Public Security in Sinaloa, after serving just over a year in the position.

The reasons for the military officer’s departure are currently unknown, but according to local and national media, Rentería Schazarino may return to active duty as a brigadier general.

General Óscar Rentería Schazarino took charge of public security in the state at the very beginning of the Sinaloa Cartel factional war, in December 2014.

The military commander replaced retired General Gerardo Mérida Sánchez, who was removed from his post a few months after the conflict erupted between “Los Chapitos” and “La Mayiza.”
