A fire in a transformer at the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) Mazatlán Oriente electrical substation, located on Santa Rosa Avenue in the El Conchi II neighborhood, caused a blackout affecting hundreds of homes in the eastern part of the city.

The incident, reported at 10:40 p.m. Thursday, left the El Conchi II, Valles del Ejido, and Jaripillo neighborhoods, as well as subdivisions such as Misiones, Arboledas III, Rivieras, Jardines de la Riviera, and Pradera I, without power.

According to preliminary information, an electrical arc between the transformer terminals may have caused the fire when the insulating material caught fire.

The flames, visible from various points, and the sudden interruption of power alarmed residents of nearby neighborhoods and subdivisions.

Mazatlán Firefighters responded to the scene, but due to protocol, they did not enter the substation. Specialized CFE personnel entered the area, disconnected the safety switches, and controlled the risk.

CFE crews immediately began work to restore service to the affected area.
