The Picachos Dam, located in Mazatlán and Concordia, is the infrastructure with the highest water intake in the entire state of Sinaloa, currently reaching 71% of its total storage capacity.

During the last week, the dam registered a 20% increase in water levels, attributable to recent rains in the mountainous region and the good performance of its catchment basins, said Civil Protection Coordinator Oscar Osuna Tirado.

“Water continues to flow, which is great. It means that by the end of the rainy season we will have 100% recovery of the Picachos Dam. Rain is forecast starting tomorrow and increasing over the weekend in both the mountain and coastal areas,” he said.

Governor Rubén Rocha Moya reported that this storage level remains unchanged because the release of water to the irrigation district, which covers 22,500 hectares of agricultural land, has not begun.

“This is at 71% right now because we’re not releasing water for the irrigation system, but we are for Mazatlán and the towns of Concordia. These are technical issues that Conagua must resolve because the irrigation system is already complete,” he noted.
