The Red Cross is working to resume operations at the Altata and Villa Juárez bases in Navolato, following the murder of paramedic Obed Reyes last Friday, just hours after he was detained.

In a statement, the Red Cross confirmed that the bases are closed; however, they are working to return to normal operations, as they are aware that the population should not be left unprotected or without access to the emergency services and pre-hospital care we provide voluntarily and selflessly.

In light of this unfortunate event, the Red Cross announced that actions have also been implemented to strengthen the mental health and emotional well-being of volunteers in Navolato.

“We know this is a complex time for our entire institutional community. However, we trust in the strength of our principles, the resilience of our team, and the solidarity of the Sinaloan community, which has long demonstrated deep appreciation and recognition for the work of the Mexican Red Cross,” the statement reads.

The Sinaloa Red Cross delegation also lamented the murder of the Navolato paramedic, who was first kidnapped and then transferred to a hospital with gunshot wounds in the municipality of Costa Rica, Culiacán.

They emphasized that no member of the institution faces this difficult time alone, as they stand in solidarity with and support each volunteer who carries out their humanitarian work with commitment and courage every day.
