E-commerce in Mazatlán has experienced notable growth, positioning the port as a leader in digital sales at the state level, where women stand out, said Ahuizotl López Apodaca.

The Undersecretary of Economic Development of the Ministry of Economy of Sinaloa mentioned that Mazatlán has the “Seller of the Year” on the MercadoLibre platform, and at least two of the three main sellers in the state

“In Mazatlán, the official MercadoLibre store went from selling 120 thousand pesos per month to generating almost 40 million pesos, which reflects impressive growth,” he said.

López Apodaca pointed out that the progress of digital commerce in the municipality has been superior to that of other cities, including Culiacán, driven largely by the Covid-19 pandemic, which accelerated digitalization and encouraged new ventures.

He highlighted that more than 60% of participation in e-commerce comes from women, who have found in this sector an ideal platform for the sale of dehydrated products such as cactus, mango and eggplant, as well as food supplements and even handmade dolls.

He said that curiously, most of these sales take place in the southeast and center of the country, with a strong presence on platforms such as MercadoLibre, Walmart Marketplace and Amazon.

The Undersecretary of Economic Development of Sinaloa highlighted key advances in the state in areas such as e-commerce, entrepreneurship and preparation for the Mazatlán Carnival, an important event for the region’s economy.
