Authorities from all three levels of government plan to implement new attractions for cruise tourists arriving at the port of Mazatlán, but which will also be enjoyed by national and international visitors arriving through other means.
This was highlighted by the municipal president Estrella Palacios Domínguez, who said that, during a meeting with representatives of the Administration of the National Port System in Mazatlán, Asipona and the Ministry of Tourism of Sinaloa, some first actions were defined due to the large number of cruise ships that are scheduled to arrive in the remainder of December, but also for next year.
She acknowledged that there is a controversy over the application of the non-resident right in the cruise industry, but said she trusts in the negotiations that President Claudia Sheinbaum instructed from the federal government so that this industry continues to consolidate.
“We trust in the federal authorities, in their good judgment so that this industry continues to grow. For our part, what we are doing from the municipal government is that the experiences of cruise passengers are better and better. We are planning cultural activities for when the ship docks.”
The mayor announced that among the actions, a carnival show is being considered in the Historic Center to encourage cruise passengers to get off the ship, among other actions of this new joint campaign to consolidate the Mazatlán brand.
Estrella Palacios acknowledged that both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate approved the new tax for ship tourists, however, she insisted that the last word has not yet been said, so at the municipal level these new strategies for serving cruise visitors are being prepared.
