The events take place in a context of extreme violence between the factions of Los Chapitos and Los Mayos of the Sinaloa Cartel.
A Mexican Air Force helicopter was captured flying on the afternoon of this Friday, October 11 in Culiacán, Sinaloa, a city that has witnessed a series of confrontations between Los Chapitos and Los Mayos of the Pacific Cartel for more than a month.
Videos that began to circulate on social networks show the moment in which the Air Force helicopter makes a tour of the city where elements of the Mexican Army Special Forces arrived this week to support security operations in the capital of Sinaloa.
In the images, the aircraft can be seen flying with a white flag. Internet users began to speculate that this was a message asking for peace due to the extreme violence that is taking place in the state capital, although others interpreted it as a way of asking “not to kill the soldiers” who arrived in the city.
This is how criminals took advantage of the war between Los Chapitos and La Mayiza to try to rob a bank with heavy machinery
However, the Ninth Military Zone of Culiacán reported that these events are due to rehearsals of the practice that elements of the Mexican Army, Air Force, and National Guard are carrying out, for the inauguration of the Liga Arco Mexicana del Pacífico at the facilities of the Tomateros de Culiacán.
Culiacán is in the midst of a growing wave of violence that has left a balance of 60 homicides in the first ten days of October, according to figures from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC). This increase in violence is attributed to the internal struggle between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, specifically between Los Chapitos and La Mayiza, a conflict that has intensified since September 9.
