The city remains calm after the events that occurred on Thursday afternoon in the city of Culiacán, confirmed the Municipal Public Security Secretary, Jaime Othoniel Barrón Valdez, who said that, even at the time of the incident, no relevant incident was reported in Mazatlán.
After attending the Roundtable for the construction of peace on Friday, he said that, after the incident in the state capital, the entrances and exits of the city were preventively reinforced by federal forces, with whom the preventive police corporation works in a coordinated manner.
He stressed that when an unusual event occurs, the security and preventive agencies activate the necessary protocols to guarantee the normal development of all economic and social activities.
“Yes, entrances and exits are reinforced preventively, but we do not generate that chaos either because we always have it; we always have a reaction plan between the state, federal authorities and us as the municipal. That is why we do not try to make that impact because it is not necessary. We have the knowledge and always the information when something is going to happen, when there will always be some effect, some situation, we respond immediately.”
The Secretary of Public Security of Mazatlán acknowledged that, with social networks, when an act of violence or insecurity occurs, citizens immediately find out about it, but also about situations that do not correspond or that are prior, which causes an excessive alert.
To prevent panic from taking hold of people, Barrón Valdez recommended not sharing information that is not verified or rumors on social networks, but rather that they look for formal and reliable means of communication, as well as the official pages and media of the police departments and corporations so that they remain calm.
