After many years, investors will finally have permission to build buildings up to 30 stories high in the Pearl of the Pacific.
For the past couple of years, Mazatlán’s development has progressed rapidly due to various reasons, from tourism to real estate offerings. However, one of the big questions is whether 30-story towers will finally be built and, if so, what that entails.
In different parts of the city, from neighborhoods and subdivisions to tourist spots like the Malecón and the Golden Zone, there has been a rise in the construction of apartment towers.
Although many people think these towers are hotels, most of them are apartment buildings aimed at expanding the real estate business in the city.
However, they all have one thing in common: none of these buildings exceed 30 stories. But this is about to change thanks to the updated Urban Development Program of the Population Center.
With this update, it is confirmed that it will be possible to build towers up to 30 stories high to attract investors from other places, not just locals.
That said, the Directorate of Sustainable Urban Development confirms that there are currently at least seven tower constructions on hold, waiting for this update to be approved.
However, José Luis Zavala Cabanillas, Undersecretary of Promotion and Competitiveness in the State, affirmed that they have not been stopped and that the goal is for Mazatlán to achieve development similar to that of the Riviera Maya or other ports.
Will Potable Water Be a Problem?
It is worth mentioning that one of the major issues that could arise in the construction of these 30-story buildings is potable water, given the extreme drought affecting all of Sinaloa this year.
Despite this, authorities have stated that they trust this will not cause problems, as they have the support of nearby dams like the Picachos Dam.
