Mazatlán is preparing to achieve the Guinness Record for “the world’s largest Sinaloan band performance.” The announcement was made by Oye Mazatlán through its Facebook account.

Over the past two weeks, debates have taken place on social media after hotel entrepreneurs spoke out against the “noise” on the streets and beaches of Mazatlán, leading to meetings with authorities and the establishment of schedules for band musicians to restrict their services.

In response to the measures from the Mazatlán Council authorities, musicians took to the streets in protest, and social media users expressed their opinions about the limitations imposed on these artists. Netizens accused entrepreneurs and tourists – who have allegedly complained – of trying to gentrify the city. Now, the people of Mazatlán are preparing to break a Guinness Record.

The travel agency Recorramos México joined the call from Oye Mazatlán. “The Sinaloan Band will make all of Mazatlán resonate, with the firm objective of continuing to give identity to this beautiful port,” they expressed in a Facebook post.

Netizens have celebrated the initiative on social platforms, where several Mexican performers have also expressed their support for the Sinaloan band musicians in Mazatlán, such as José Ángel Ledesma Quintero “El Coyote”.

“For all my fellow musicians, singers, norteños, band, and mariachis from Mazatlán, we just found out that there is now permission for them to play, and that’s great, because we musicians, and I include myself, started from the bottom, and I believe that all we do, like the musicians from Mazatlán, is to seek the bread for our children so that they lack nothing to eat,” expressed Ledesma Quintero, according to Aristegui Noticias.

“Let the people work, in my opinion, the kids cheer up people with music!!!”, wrote the band singer Edwin Luna on his Instagram account.

Rubén Rocha disagrees with banning music

For his part, the state governor, Rubén Rocha Moya, expressed his opinion on the situation through his X account:

“I do not share the idea of prohibiting Mazatlán musicians from carrying out their work, which is dignified and honest; with it, they bring daily sustenance to their families,” he wrote.

“I have instructed those in charge of the Government and Tourism secretaries to collaborate with municipal authorities and those interested in constructing a regulatory framework that harmonizes the interests of both parties, to maintain our main beach destination as the favorite place for Mexican and foreign tourists,” he concluded.
