The mayor of Mazatlán announced that there will be public works on Isla de la Piedra for this 2024, despite the opposition of some residents who fear losing their land.
He said that the projects include the construction of a boardwalk, a park, a market, and a water treatment plant, as well as the improvement of roads and lighting.
He assured that the works will not affect the property rights of the inhabitants, and that they will benefit from the increase in tourism and economic development.
He also said that he will seek to dialogue with the opponents, and that he will respect their right to protest, as long as they do not block the access to the island or the ferry service.
He added that the works on Isla de la Piedra are part of a comprehensive plan to transform Mazatlán into a world-class tourist destination.
